Dimple plasty

Dimple plasty

Dimples on the face suggest good fortune in some cultures. It is also purported as a sign of attractiveness and veracity. Dimples also may play a role in sexual selection. Dimple actually means a small, hollow area or crease, permanent or transient, in some part of the human body, especially one formed in the cheek in smiling.

Natural dimples are usually formed when there is a small defect in the cheek musculature (most often the buccinator muscle). The skin overlying this small defect is stuck down to the underlying connective tissue and creates a dimple in the skin with facial animation (smiling). Dimples may be caused by variations in the structure of the facial muscle known as zygomaticus major. Specifically, the presence of a double or bifid zygomaticus major muscle may explain the formation of cheek dimples.

Dimples on the face is usually preferred on one side or both sides of the face and the chin. The procedure of dimple creation is called as Dimpleplasty. It is a minor surgical procedure that can be done under local anesthesia it takes about 30 mintues to done to perform on one side. You will be awake and comfortable throughout the procedure. Since it is a day care procedure you can go home right away and normal activities can be resumed straight away.

Immediately after the procedure there will a be a transient puckering of the skin at the site of dimple creation for about 2 weeks making it appear that the dimple is always there (static dimple). After 2 weeks this will become better and the dimple starts to be visible only if you are smiling (dynamic dimple). We can also create a permanent static dimple in both cheek and chin area if needed.
