When was the last time you thought about your skin without worrying about a wrinkle or praying that a pimple scar would be gone? The reality is that our skin is far more than just a top layer we wash, cream and make up.

Numerous things in the environment are harmful to your skin. Environmental pollution, UV light (sun), extreme temperatures, wind, sweat and using the wrong skin products can all damage your skin.

The good news is that you have the power to maintain a healthy skin. Wonder how? The following steps can be taken to ensure a healthy skin:

Protect your skin from the sun

  • One of the most important aspect in taking care of your skin is protecting it from the sun. Long periods of sun exposure can cause wrinkles, age spots and other skin problems, as well as increase the risk of skin cancer.
  • Avoid the sun between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. when the sun's rays are strongest.
  • Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of at least 15.
  • Cover your skin with protective clothing and wide-brimmed hats.

Stop smoking

Smoking makes your skin look older contributing to wrinkles. It also damages collagen and elastin that give your skin strength and elasticity. In addition, smoking increases your risk of squamous cell skin cancer. So, if you smoke, the best way to protect your skin is to quit.

Eat a healthy diet

A healthy diet can help one look and feel their best. The association between diet and younger looking skin is a common knowledge. Also, drinking plenty of water helps keep your skin stay hydrated.

Be gentle with your skin

Also, after washing or bathing, gently pat or blot your skin dry with a towel so that some moisture remains on your skin. And don’t forget to Moisturize!

Reduce stress

Stress can make your skin more sensitive and trigger breakouts and other skin problems. It is important to encourage a healthy skin healthy state of mind. Get enough sleep, and make time to do the things you enjoy. The results might be more dramatic than you expect!
