Fat transfer is also called fat grafting, where a person’s own fat is used to fill irregularities. It may be considered for facial rejuvenation, body contouring and breast augmentation following an individual assessment.

What to expect?

The necessary fat is obtained by liposculpture through small incisions on the abdomen or inner thigh usually. The fat is then processed by centrifuging or filtering to get a pure liquid fatty tissue. This fat is injected in minute amounts in the tissues to evenly distribute it so that the injected fat is surrounded by healthy tissue ensuring that the transplanted fat remains in contact with the surrounding tissues to supply it with necessary oxygen and nutrients.

The areas treated will be swollen immediately after the procedure, especially the lips if treated. The doctor will advise on using a cold pack or compress to minimize the swelling.

Patients will have a check-up with the surgeon five to seven days post procedure and also three weeks later where over corrections are done.

Different people heal at different rates but the patient can most likely return to work within 2-3 weeks of the surgery.

These results of the procedure can last for few years, however multiple sessions may be required to get the desired result.
