What to expect?

Laser hair removal is usually done in a series of treatments, with varied intervals depending on the location treated.

The areas such as the upper lip and chin the treatment might be repeated in short intervals as hair grows quickly in these areas. Whereas on areas like the legs and back, the treatment might be done in longer intervals.

The doctor might apply topical anesthetics to the skin to reduce discomforts if any during treatment.

The doctor will then press the hand-held laser device to the skin activating the laser. The laser beam will pass through the skin to the hair follicles, damaging the hair follicles with hair growth. 

Treating a small areas, like the upper lip, will take only a few minutes whereas treating a larger areas, such as legs, might take more than an hour or so.

The patient might have redness and swelling for the first few hours after the procedure. In case of any skin reaction such as minor burns immediately after the procedure, the doctor might prescribe steroid cream to the area for a variable period of time.
