Blepharoplasty

Blepharoplasty Surgery

Is the Sagging of the skin around your eyes bothersome to you? Is the excess skin and fat making your eyelid look heavy giving you an aged appearance, puffiness, and sometimes blocking your upper field of vision? Blepharoplasty is the perfect option for you.

Blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure to improve the appearance of the eyelids. This Surgery can be performed on the upper lids, lower lids or both. You can also seek out blepharoplasty if you have significant bags under the eyes or if your eyebrows are starting to sag.

Are you a good candidate?

You might be a good candidate for this procedure if your vision is affected by sagging skin. Some people may complain that their vision when looking upwards is blocked by the hanging skin.

If you have a positive outlook and realistic goals from the surgery and have no serious eye conditions.

To reduce the risk of complications, you may also be a good candidate if you don’t smoke or have any chronic illnesses that can affect your recovery.

Things to discuss during your blepharoplasty surgery consultation:

  • Your surgical goals
  • Your Medical conditions, allergies, previous treatments and any previous or present problems with your eyes
  • Your Current medications, alcohol, tobacco and drug use
  • Your Previous surgeries

What to expect?

Blepharoplasty is performed on an outpatient basis, which means you can go home shortly after the procedure.

General anesthesia is used only for some patients. The surgeon will usually inject a numbing agent into the eyelids.

Usually, the recovery time after blepharoplasty is very short. Although bruising and swelling is usually worse on the day after the surgery, they begin to disappear quickly.

Bandages are usually placed over the incisions that will be removed in several days, while the stitches are let to remain in the skin for about a week. Sometimes self-absorbing stitches are used that do not require any removal.

You can’t wear contact lenses for a few weeks following the surgery and you will also need to make sure you wash the area gently and keep it clean.
