Moustache & Beard Transplant

Beard Transplant Procedure | Beard Transplant Cosmetic Surgery - Novacosmetic

Every person is unique in their own way, the way our facial hair grows is no different either. However, it is a case of worry when for some people moustaches and beards don’t grow or are spotty. For many men there is nothing like having a full beard or moustache to be proud of.

But unlike some time back, when there wasn’t much that could be done, facial hair transplantation may now be considered after an assessment of the cause of hair loss and suitability for surgery.

While some men have never been able to grow a thick beard, others may suffer from thinning of beard due to genetics, laser hair removal, electrolysis, traumatic injuries, facial surgeries, skin cancer removal procedures or some other uncontrollable circumstances. Suitability for transplantation and the expected result depend on an individual assessment.

What to expect?

The facial hair transplant is usually performed under local anesthesia, but can be done under intravenous sedation if desired. The procedure takes from three to as many as eight hours. Discomfort varies from person to person. Your surgeon will discuss anaesthesia, risks and recovery with you. The procedure the area must be kept dry the first 3 days after. The crusts around each graft will fall out after 10 to 15 days and the transplanted hairs will fall off a week or two later. Healing time and the timing of return to activities vary from person to person. Follow your surgeon’s aftercare advice. Transplanted hairs may shed before new growth begins. The timing, density and duration of growth vary from person to person; lifelong growth cannot be guaranteed.

The goals for beard transplant can vary from minor fillings in of a limited area, to the full restoration of a beard. The procedure can be performed on areas where there is no hair, or on areas where hair growth is thin and more fullness is desired. While not very common, some patients may require another smaller procedure to transplant additional grafts if they desire more than moderate density.

Who is a suitable candidate?

  • People with patchy beards may discuss transplantation after an assessment
  • Men who have sparse beard hair, irregular patterned hair.
  • People with facial scars and reduced hair growth may be considered after assessment of the scar and donor hair.
  • Also, men with a total lack of facial hair
  • A facial hair transplant aims to change hair coverage in selected areas. Results vary from person to person.
